A message from the President and Vice-Chancellor

Dear colleagues,

I extend my warmest congratulations to Professor Attila Brungs on his appointment as the next President and Vice-Chancellor of UNSW Sydney.

I have had the pleasure of working with Attila in his capacity as Vice-Chancellor and President at UTS during my time at UNSW and have admired his achievements. This is a stellar appointment for our University. The fact that Attila is an eminent alumnus makes his appointment a particularly proud moment for the UNSW community.

In Professor Brungs, UNSW will have a leader of the highest calibre. His commitment to education, research and engagement will ensure that our University navigates the challenges of the post-pandemic world successfully and continues a quest for excellence, which aims to improve lives in Australia and globally.

My time as UNSW Vice-Chancellor has been a great privilege and joy for me and I wish Attila a similarly fulfilling experience. There is still much to do in my last seven months in post. I assure the UNSW community that I will give all of my energy to the role until my final day in post and will then be a passionate supporter of our great University.

I will work closely with Attila during the next few months to ensure a seamless transition at the end of January 2022. Until then, please join me in congratulating Atilla on his appointment to the role of UNSW President and Vice-Chancellor.

Best wishes

Professor Ian Jacobs
President and Vice-Chancellor
